The Story
The Texas Rangers defeated the Cleveland Guardians 6-3 at Progressive Field on June 29, 2026, completing a comeback that erased what the DiamondIQ model had estimated as a 55 percent pre-game home win probability for Cleveland. The Rangers were held scoreless through the first three innings and trailed after the Guardians scored twice in the bottom of the fifth on a Gabriel Arias home run off Chris Paddack, a swing that shifted win probability 13.1 percent in Cleveland's favor. Texas answered with a run in the sixth before the game broke open in the seventh inning, when Justin Foscue delivered a double off Parker Messick that added 15.9 percent to the Rangers' win probability, and Cam Cauley followed with a triple off Messick that pushed the advantage another 11.4 percent. Texas tacked on two more runs in the ninth on another Foscue double, this one off Erik Sabrowski, worth an additional 13.0 percent in win probability as Cleveland's path to victory closed entirely.
Foscue was the offensive catalyst, finishing with a combined WPA of plus-20.3 percent and a RE24 of plus-2.0, both figures leading all position players. Chase DeLauter was nearly as impactful at plus-18.5 percent WPA and plus-1.0 RE24, while Cauley contributed plus-10.4 percent WPA. Arias provided Cleveland's most significant offensive moment with his fifth-inning homer, but his groundout in the bottom of the eighth off Jacob Latz swung win probability 12.9 percent back toward Texas and effectively ended the Guardians' last serious threat. On the mound, Latz was the most valuable Rangers arm by WPA at plus-20.1 percent, with Robby Ahlstrom and Colin Holderman adding plus-11.8 percent and plus-10.7 percent respectively to preserve the three-run final margin.
