The Story
The Colorado Rockies defeated the Texas Rangers 7-6 on May 18, 2026, at Coors Field, rallying from a deficit to hand Texas the loss. The DiamondIQ model's estimate entered the game with Colorado holding a 47 percent home win probability, and while the Rangers mounted a serious threat late, that figure climbed to 100 percent by the final out. Colorado built its advantage incrementally, plating two runs in the first, two more in the third — aided significantly by a Texas fielding error in the bottom of the third that added 15.1 percent to Colorado's win probability off Peyton Gray — and two additional runs in the fourth. Texas finished with 10 hits against just 7 for the Rockies, but two errors proved costly, and the Rangers could not fully convert their offensive opportunities.
The decisive sequence came in the top of the eighth, where Texas loaded the bases and threatened to overturn the game entirely. Justin Foscue drew a walk off Brennan Bernardino that swung win probability 17.2 percent in the Rangers' favor, and Danny Jansen followed with another walk off Victor Vodnik worth an additional 9.0 percent. However, Kyle Higashioka's pop out to Bernardino erased 13.2 percent of Texas's probability in a single swing, proving to be the critical moment that kept Colorado in front. The Rangers scored three in the inning but could not complete the comeback. Mickey Moniak's flyout in the bottom of the eighth off Jakob Junis added 7.8 percent for Colorado and helped seal the outcome.
Among individual performers, Justin Foscue led all batters with a WPA of plus-32.6 percent and an RE24 of plus-4.2, making him the most impactful offensive player despite being on the losing side. For Colorado, Kyle Karros posted a WPA of plus-13.7 percent with an RE24 of plus-0.8, while Brenton Doyle contributed plus-8.8 percent WPA and plus-1.0 RE24. On the pitching side, Juan Mejia was the most valuable arm by win probability, posting plus-15.2 percent WPA for the Rockies, followed by Jose Quintana at plus-8.8 percent and Jaden Hill at plus-5.8 percent.
